Second perhaps only to ‘wagyu’, truffle is one of the most popular words invoked on menus. It was only a matter of time before it made its way onto supermarket shelves and onto ‘ultra deluxe potato crisps’ with this Special Reserve Sea Salt & Black Truffle by Red Rock Deli.
These potato crisps have a savoury truffle fragrance and taste much like how they smell, with the sea salt coming through ahead of a richly fragrant, earthy and mushroomy truffle flavour in the body before the flavour of potato crisps dominate the end of each bite. The addition of truffle elevates these chips to ‘luxe’ territory, but the intensity of the truffle flavour becomes overwhelming after just a handful. That said, the flavour is enjoyable, although it’s not moreish like the Wagyu Beef & Wasabi Cream so it’s not a flavour I’d repurchase.
