Second per­haps only to ‘wagyu’, truffle is one of the most pop­u­lar words invoked on menus. It was only a mat­ter of time before it made its way onto super­mar­ket shelves and onto ‘ultra deluxe potato crisps’ with this Special Reserve Sea Salt & Black Truffle by Red Rock Deli.

These potato crisps have a savoury truffle fra­grance and taste much like how they smell, with the sea salt com­ing through ahead of a richly fra­grant, earthy and mush­roomy truffle fla­vour in the body before the fla­vour of potato crisps dom­in­ate the end of each bite. The addi­tion of truffle elev­ates these chips to ‘luxe’ ter­rit­ory, but the intens­ity of the truffle fla­vour becomes over­whelm­ing after just a hand­ful. That said, the fla­vour is enjoy­able, although it’s not more­ish like the Wagyu Beef & Wasabi Cream so it’s not a fla­vour I’d repur­chase.
