Glico Pocky Koi Fukami Matcha

The tea at a Japanese tea cere­mony is the highest grade of matcha and this Glico Pocky Koi Fukami Matcha is a lim­ited edi­tion fla­vour using just that ‘koi fukami’, or ‘deep, dark’, matcha from Uji, Kyoto, Japan.

The con­struc­tion is much like the Giant Uji Matcha Pocky by Glico Japan with a matcha white chocol­ate enrob­ing a matcha fla­voured bis­cuit that’s tinged lightly green.

On tast­ing, though, these Pocky dis­tin­guish them­selves from the Giant Pocky with its intens­ity and depth of matcha fla­vour. Each stick smells of a high-qual­ity green tea. An ini­tial sweet­ness of white chocol­ate devel­ops to a rich and fra­grant fla­vour of matcha with prom­in­ent veget­al notes before a pleas­ant green tea bit­ter­ness emerges in the fin­ish that intens­i­fies the matcha fla­vour and bal­ances the sweet­ness. The bis­cuit stick is unsweetened with a mel­low matcha fla­vour and cleanses the pal­ate between sticks with the con­stant altern­at­ing sweet­ness and bit­ter­ness of the matcha fla­vour ensur­ing it nev­er becomes bor­ing. These are deli­cious!
