Lychee Cider by Lychee Gold

It was only a matter of time before we tried a lychee cider — we love lychees so it stands to reason that it was only a matter of finding one. And we did. In fact, I found it 2 years earlier in Essen Restaurant in Ultimo but wasn’t impressed with the flavour as much of the lychee aromatics seemed to have evaporated from the wide-rimmed glass it was served in. D rediscovered it mid-2017 at Chefs Gallery and was delighted with its flavour, so we embarked on a mission to locate it in bottle shops so that I could clarify my earlier my impressions.

The cider is a translucent pale straw colour with a moderate effervescence and a bright fruity floral lychee nose. Served chilled, the sweet floral notes of fresh lychee come through in the head of each sip, aided in intensity by the pleasant aroma accompanying each sip. The fruitiness builds in the body with a balanced sweetness before receding into the background towards the finish as the more alcoholic cider notes come to the fore ahead of a return of the floral lychee notes in the aftertaste. Overall, the flavour of the lychee is very natural much like in the fresh fruit and one we’d be keen to return for.

This bottle of Lychee Cider by Lychee Gold contained 330 ml. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
