It’s not often that you find lychee juice in a Western supermarket, so it was a must try when we spotted this Dewlands Lychee Juice in Harris Farm Markets. It’s a blend of grape juice with 15% lychee juice.
The juice is an opaque yellow colour with a sweet lychee nose. Served chilled, the floral notes of lychee come through first through your sense of smell before it emerges in the taste. While the sweetness recalls the intense sweetness of grapes from the base, it also reminds of ripe, in season lychees and persists through to the finish with the grape notes returning to linger in the aftertaste. The sweetness is intense and moderately acidic, but it remains a natural lychee flavour and does not border on being perfume-like as you can get in artificial lychee flavour as in Lychee Drink by Yeos.
This bottle of Dewlands Lychee Juice contained 1 litre. It was produced in South Africa and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
