Food Envy Tiramisu

Tiramisu is some­thing I’d nev­er turn down for dessert. So when D spot­ted this Food Envy Tiramisu, it wasn’t long before it found its way into our trol­ley.

There’s not much of a descrip­tion of the tiram­isu on the box, but it’s made in Italy and that’s good enough for us to try.

The tiram­isu has very bal­anced notes of mars­ala com­ing through in the first bite before the boozy notes mel­low to a subtle chocol­atey cof­fee note with the smooth mas­car­pone cream in the fin­ish. Compared to oth­er brands, like the one by Toscano, the use of alco­hol to soak the sponge is restrained and leaves no shal­low pool at the base of the con­tain­er. We prefer the restrained use of alco­hol in this Aldi ver­sion as it gives the dessert a light­er mouth­feel, but we enjoy the more gen­er­ous chocol­ate and cof­fee fla­vours in the Toscano.
