Past noon, there’s bound to be a long queue for Emperor’s Cream Puffs outside the hole-in-the-wall next to the main entrance to Emperor’s Garden Cake & Bakery.
Said hole-in-the-wall opens directly onto the machine that churns out the delicious, piping hot, fresh puffs (1 for $0.35, 3 for $1.00, 18 for $5.00)
The machine spits fills each puff with custard and they’re bought faster than the machine can spit them out.
Each puff is shaped like a chestnut with a beautiful golden brown and speckled over with pale dots with an additive baked eggy smell.
The runny custard is lip searingly hot yet delicious, bringing just the right amount of sweetness and moisture.
At their affordable price (it’s increased in the past year), it’s no wonder that there’s always a queue outside.
Emperor’s Garden Cake & Bakery is located at 96 – 100 Hay St, Haymarket NSW 2000.
