Glico Pocky Tsubu Tsubu Strawberry


Heart-shaped products do not attract me. Indeed, I’m more likely to avoid heart-shaped products. Yet, I make excep­tions, like when it comes to a spe­cial Pocky fla­vour. And there’s all the more reas­on when it seeks to improve an old fla­vour.

This is Glico Pocky Tsubu Tsubu Strawberry. The Japanese use the words tsubu tsubu to refer to food that con­tains bits, and here, Pocky with straw­berry bits. Each Pocky bis­cuit con­tains 28% freeze dried straw­berry flakes embed­ded the creamy straw­berry mousse enrob­ing it.


The freeze-dried straw­berry flakes elev­ate this Pocky by giv­ing it a deli­cious depth of fla­vour that’s truer to that of fresh straw­ber­ries. The straw­berry flakes provide an addict­ive tang that cuts through the often overly sweet mousse.

This photo shows the heart-shaped Glico Pocky Tsubu Tsubu Strawberry along­side the Glico Pocky Strawberry. The dent made by the centre of the heart makes for a thick­er mousse that’s very wel­come.


The mousse is vel­vety smooth both in appear­ance and mouth­feel, which is in stark con­trast to the grainy straw­berry mousse on the Pocky pro­duced in Thailand. I might stick to fla­vours pro­duced in Japan in the future.

The box of Glico Pocky Tsubu Tsubu Strawberry con­tained 2 packs each with 11 pieces. It was man­u­fac­tured in Japan and pur­chased in Hong Kong in 2015.
