Blackflower Patisserie, Haymarket

In late-July, I caught up with C over cake and coffee at Blackflower Patisserie in Sydney because I wanted to eat something ‘pretty’. Eating pretty cakes, now and then, cheers me up.

This is ‘Lust’ (rose mousse with lychee puree jelly and hazelnut feuillitine). The rose mousse was quite strong and quite overwhelmed any hint of lychee. I’m rather sensitive to floral flavours/scents though.

And this is ‘Pac-man’ (mango mousse, passionfruit jelly and sable breton sponge). You never really go wrong with passionfruit or mango cakes. I’d have preferred the jelly/mousse to be less stiff though.

The cakes were an ‘east meets west’ theme. Western desserts have stronger flavours generally; everything is more tangy, richer, etc. Eastern takes on western desserts (or eastern desserts in general) seem to be rather mellow to the point that I find them boring and dry. So on the east-meets-west thing? I still prefer Western desserts, but these were a perfect mid-point between the two.

Blackflower Patisserie is located at 37 Ultimo Road, Haymarket NSW 2000.
